On Friday September 29th, 32 FFA members traveled to SUNY Cobleskill to participate in a variety of contests ranging from plant, animal, natural resource and mechanical sciences. The day concluded with several of Sidney’s FFA members finishing in the top 3 places. Pheonix MacRabie Groat placed 2nd in Insect Identification, Reed Scott took 2nd in the 2-wheel tractor driving competition, Don Ryder took 3rd place in the Radio Telemetry contest, and Richard Rajner placed 2nd in the excavator equipment operation contest. Congratulations to all our winners.

Mr. Waltz and the Sidney FFA would also like to thank Spence and Judy Gridley, Cheryl Bishop and Hailey Newell for helping out during the day and supporting our Sidney FFA members in their contests.

What Does The Sidney FFA Do?

  • County and State Fairs – contests and public demonstrations
  • Summer and Winter Camp at Camp Oswegatchie
  • State and National leadership and skills workshops
  • Trips to colleges- contests, workshops, tours, etc.
  • FFA National Convention – 5 day trip (offered some years)
  • Create a Sidney FFA Fair for students Pre-K 6 grade
  • Attend the FFA State Convention
  • Help in community activities or projects
  • Raise money thru fund raisers and projects to support costs on various trips and activities
  • Spring Awards Banquet at the local Fire Hall

 

Requirements To Participate the Sidney FFA

  • Enroll in an Agriculture Class: (Basic Agriscience, Forestry, Ag. Mechanics, Vet. Science, Greenhouse and Landscape Management, MP Woods, and/or Construction Systems)
  • Attend monthly FFA meetings and FFA activities
  • Participate in the fall fruit sale and sell at least 3 boxes of fruit or cheese/pepperoni to cover your state and national dues
  • You must follow all rules of the event your are attending
